FAMILY RECIPES

Ps. Juan Mogi

Transcript

A harmonious and happy family. Like cooking a dish, a healthy family needs the right ingredients, spices, process, and method.

1. Good Ingredients – A Clean Heart. Proverbs 4:23 reminds us, “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” The heart is like soil: what is planted will grow. If the heart is filled with anger, hurt, and resentment, all of it will affect family relationships. Therefore, the heart needs to be continually cleansed with God’s word, forgiveness, and humility to apologize. Joseph is an example of someone who experienced many wounds but chose to forgive his brothers. True happiness is not determined by possessions or circumstances, but by God and a righteous heart.

2. The Spice of Love – Giving Selflessly. Love is not just about take and give, but “give”—giving without expecting anything in return. God Himself showed His love by giving Jesus for us. Love means having a desire to bless and please others, even when it requires sacrifice. Ruth showed loyal love to Naomi without thinking of her own benefit, and the Lord honored her faithfulness.

3. The Right Fire – Patience and Self-Control. James 1:19–20 teaches us to be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry. In a family, too much “fire” can damage relationships. Abraham and Sarah are examples of how impatience in waiting for God's promise through their decision concerning Hagar ultimately led to problems. Therefore, we need patience and self-control in our words, emotions, decisions, and even finances.

4. Balanced Proportions – Life Balance. Ecclesiastes 3:1 says that there is a time for everything. Families need a balance between work and family, serving and resting, correcting and giving appreciation. The story of Mary and Martha also reminds us of the importance of paying attention to spiritual life as well as practical responsibilities.

5. The Right Cooking Time – Trusting God's Process. Ecclesiastes 3:11 says that God makes everything beautiful in its time. Every family has a different process. Therefore, do not compare our lives with other families. Learn to trust that God is working, even when the results are not yet visible.

6. Cooked with Love – God's Grace. Ultimately, all these recipes require God's love and grace. Love enables us to remain patient, forgive, persevere, and face various family problems.

A happy family is not a family without problems, but rather a family that continually learns to guard their hearts, love, control themselves, live balanced lives, trust God's process, and rely on His grace. The Lord Jesus Blesses.
