Bury All Your Ambitions!
“Jeremiah 36; Philippians 3:18”
"So Jeremiah called Baruch son of Neriah, and while Jeremiah dictated all the words the LORD had spoken to him, Baruch wrote them on the scroll." (Jeremiah 36:4). Baruch means "blessed." According to the story in the Bible, he was not just an ordinary person, because he was the brother of Seraiah, an official of King Zedekiah (Jeremiah 51:59). According to Jewish history, Josephus, he might have been a person with a position in Zedekiah's palace, but under the influence of Jeremiah, he buried all his ambitions (Jeremiah 45:5) and placed himself as Jeremiah's partner and took part in the service to the God of Israel. Brothers and sisters, only a few people are willing to leave all their positions and take part in responding to God's calling. But we must learn from what Baruch did. He was indeed not as famous as other prophets, or even compared to the Prophet Jeremiah; his name is not as shining as this prophet. But God has a beautiful plan for a person named Baruch. And God entrusted him to write down the word that had been spoken through the mouth of the Prophet Jeremiah. Do not be ambitious to become a famous person if we are not obedient to God's calling. Do not care about others who are so ambitious to become "artists of the kingdom of God." So that the praise that should be directed to God is taken by themselves. Their heads are always held high because they feel that the praise is worthy of them. We must be faithful with what God has given us. Do not be jealous of those who have more shining talents and callings, because truly the most important thing is to be faithful. Maybe we are not called to be a preacher, but the calling that we consider small is the one that is important. God looks for people who are faithful to their calling. And God also wants us to be people who are faithful and do not fall into human ambitions that bring destruction. Reflection: Bury all our ambitions and melt them all into the will of God. And put to death in us all pride and become a servant who only knows how to please the heart of God. Human ambition that is not melted into the will of God will bring self-destruction.
