Everyone surely loves comfort. We desire a life that is peaceful, prosperous, and free from problems. However, the Bible reminds us that precisely when everything is going well, we must be more vigilant. Comfort can turn into a trap that makes a person off guard, stop growing, and even slowly drift away from God. Destructive comfort occurs when we feel that we have enough. We no longer stay alert, no longer pursue quality, lose the passion to develop, and start relying on our own abilities. Wealth, reputation, experience, position, or the people around us slowly replace God's position as the source of strength. A heart that once depended on God turns into a heart that feels capable of doing everything by itself. A simple picture can be seen from a house that is never touched by sunlight. The house will become damp and filled with mold. Likewise, the spiritual life. The "heat" we often complain about is actually needed to keep us healthy. Challenges, difficulties, and life's processes are often used by God to form strong character. Without that process, we easily feel satisfied and take God's grace for granted. 1. Slave Mentality. This is what Moses warned the nation of Israel about in Deuteronomy 8. After forty years in the wilderness, they would enter a land flowing with milk and honey. Moses advised them not to forget God when life became prosperous. When houses were built, livestock increased, and gold and silver abounded, they had to remember that it was God who gave the strength to obtain everything. If they forgot God and followed other gods, destruction would be the result. 2. Purification Process. Why did God take Israel in circles for forty years in the wilderness? Not because God wanted to torture them, but to change the slave mentality into a winner's mentality. While living in Egypt, they were used to complaining, afraid to face challenges, and always wanting to return to their comfort zone. 3. School of Faith. The wilderness became a school of faith that taught them to depend entirely on God, leave behind their old way of life, and learn to obey in every matter. Often God also allows us to pass through uncomfortable seasons. It is in that process that pride is broken, character is formed, and faith is purified. We learn that success is not just a result of human effort, but God's grace alone. Even in small matters, God is training our faithfulness. Therefore, do not let comfort make you lose your sense of dependence on God. Always remember how He has helped us in the past. Remain humble when blessed, remain faithful when facing the wilderness, and believe that every process has a divine purpose. As written in Job 23:14, God will finish what He has decreed for our lives. He never fails to keep His promises, and with Him, we will remain fruitful in every season of life. May the Lord Jesus bless you.
