Passover is one of the most significant events in the Bible. In Exodus 12, God commanded the Israelites to sacrifice a spotless lamb and apply its blood to the doorframes of their homes. When God saw the blood, He promised: “I will pass over you." This is the meaning of Passover—death and destruction do not touch those who are under the protection of the blood.
This event is not merely history, but a profound picture of God's redemptive work. The Passover lamb points to Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God, who came to atone for the sins of the world.
1. The Blood of the Lamb Cleanses and Purifies from Sin. Since humanity fell into sin, our relationship with God has been broken. Sin cannot be erased by good deeds alone. The Bible states that without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness. That is why in the Old Testament, sacrifices always involved blood.
However, all of that was merely a shadow. Jesus came as the perfect sacrifice—sinless, without blemish. He died on the cross and shed His blood for us. Through His sacrifice, our sins are wiped away, we are forgiven, and restored to God. What humanity could not do, Christ accomplished once and for all.
2. The Blood of the Lamb Protects and Saves. On the first Passover night, everyone inside a house marked with blood was saved from death. But those outside were not spared.
This teaches us that God's protection is real for those who believe and abide in Him. The blood of Jesus not only forgives but also delivers us from judgment and destruction. In this life, there may be many threats, fears, and uncertainties, but we have the assurance that God watches over and protects His people.
Just like Rahab was saved because of the scarlet cord in her window, so too are we saved because of the blood of Christ. Not because of who we are, but because of what Jesus has done.
3. The Blood of the Lamb Has Fully Paid for Our Lives. When Jesus said on the cross, "It is finished," it meant that everything had been fully paid. In its original language, the word signifies a transaction that has been completely settled.
Our salvation cannot be bought with money, effort, or our own goodness. Only one "price" could pay for it—the blood of Jesus. We have been redeemed at a very high cost.
Therefore, our lives are no longer our own. The correct response is to surrender our lives completely to God. Like someone rescued from death, we are called to live for Him who has saved us.
Passover reminds us of God's immense love. The Blood of the Lamb not only saves but also gives us new and eternal life. For in the blood of the Lamb, there is eternal forgiveness, protection, and salvation. Amen.
May the Lord Jesus Bless You
