TASTE AND SEE

Ps. Freddy Budisantoso

Transcript

Psalm 34 was born when David was in a very dark period. He was chased by King Saul, who was envious and feared losing power. In his flight, David even feigned madness before King Achish to save himself. After that, he hid in the Cave of Adullam, a dark, damp place full of uncertainty. There, people in distress, indebted, and brokenhearted gathered. Yet, it was from that dark place that a praise full of faith was born.

First, praise the Lord at all times. David said, “I will praise the Lord at all times.” He did not wait for conditions to improve to praise the Lord. True praise does not only emerge when life goes smoothly, but also when we are in struggles. Hebrews 13:15 calls it a sacrifice of praise, which is praise offered even when our feelings do not support it. Therefore, make it a habit to use the first minute after waking up to be grateful for three things. When we boast in the Lord, we remember that He forgives, heals, redeems, sustains, and renews our strength.

Second, the Lord is present in every season of life. Psalm 34:19 says that the Lord is near to the brokenhearted. David not only faced external enemies but also wounds from those closest to him. However, the Lord used that long process to shape his character. Defeating Goliath might have happened in one day, but becoming a David took years. True victory is not just escaping problems, but remaining obedient, not bitter, and capable of forgiving. Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all. He hears the cries of His people; even the angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear Him. Therefore, release bitterness. Holding onto hatred is like drinking poison and hoping someone else dies.

Third, taste and see that the Lord is good. This verse doesn't just say, “Know,” but “Taste.” God wants us to experience His goodness personally. Hearing someone describe delicious food will not satisfy hunger; we must taste it ourselves. Likewise, we experience God through prayer, reading the Word, worship, and an intimate relationship with Him. Record every help, healing, restoration, and breakthrough that God accomplishes. Those records will be proof when doubts come and a testimony to others.

Taste first, then see and tell. The most powerful testimony is born from a personal experience with God. Therefore, do not go home with the same spiritual life. Build intimacy with God, praise Him in all circumstances, trust in His presence, and be salt and light that shares His goodness with the world.
