Pentecost is a very important celebration for believers. Pentecost is not just a historical commemoration, but a divine moment when the Holy Spirit, the third Person of the Triune God, was poured out upon God's people. This event marked the birth of the church and became the beginning of the believer's life filled with power from on high.
We desperately need the Holy Spirit. Like unseen oxygen that is vital for life, so too is the Holy Spirit essential for our spiritual lives. Without the Holy Spirit, we would not be able to endure, grow, and walk in God's will. Salvation we indeed receive by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, but a life filled with the Holy Spirit needs to be continually sought and renewed daily. We need His guidance, His comfort, His counsel, and His power in every step of our lives.
Jesus Himself promised to send another Helper, the Spirit of Truth, who would be with us forever and dwell within us. This means that believers never walk alone. The Holy Spirit lives in our hearts, making us the temple of God. He is our Comforter, Helper, Counselor, and Advocate.
That is why Jesus said it was better for Him to go so that the Comforter might come. When Jesus was still physically with His disciples, they could see, hear, and walk with Him. But after the Holy Spirit was poured out, God's power was no longer just around them, but resided within them. This is a new season: a season of life led and empowered by the Holy Spirit.
Pentecost also reminds us that the Holy Spirit brings three important blessings. First, regeneration, which is new birth. No one can say, 'Jesus is Lord,' except by the Holy Spirit. Second, sanctification, which is the work of the Holy Spirit shaping us to be more like Christ. Third, power, which is the divine ability to live victoriously, serve, bear witness, and face life's challenges.
The power of the Holy Spirit is not just theory. In Acts 1:8, Jesus said, 'But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you.' This word 'power' speaks of strength, ability, and capacity from God. With the power of the Holy Spirit, believers are enabled to face fears, weaknesses, conflicts, and life's challenges.
The Holy Spirit is indeed invisible, but His impact is tangible. Like wind that cannot be seen but can be felt, so too can the work of the Holy Spirit be seen through restored lives, transformed hearts, awakened faith, and paths that God opens.
Therefore, let us open our hearts and long for the fullness of the Holy Spirit every day. Do not limit God with doubtful thoughts. When the Holy Spirit works, dry lives can be revived, wounds can be healed, joy can be restored, and dead ends can be opened. Pentecost reminds us: we are not only saved to endure, but filled with the Holy Spirit to live in God's power.
Jesus Blesses You.
