WHILE WAITING FOR GOD'S PROMISE

Ps. Natanael Ferry S

Transcript

The life of faith is inseparable from the process of waiting. Waiting is often seen as unpleasant, even as a waste of time. However, from a spiritual perspective, the “waiting room” is precisely where God works to shape one's faith and character.

Through the story of Joshua and the fall of the walls of Jericho in Joshua 6, it is clear that God's promise is often declared, but not immediately fulfilled instantly. God said that Jericho had been delivered, which spiritually meant the victory had already been given. Yet, in reality, Joshua still had to go through a process and face conditions that humanly seemed impossible. This shows that what is impossible for humans is still possible for God.

Firstly, it is important to hold onto God's promise. In various life situations that resemble a “Jericho”—whether it's a major problem, a difficult circumstance, or an unanswered prayer—faith must still cling to God's promise. This promise does not come from personal feelings or desires, but from God's word which is certain and unchanging. Therefore, knowledge of God's promise can only be gained through closeness to His word.

Secondly, God's promise demands complete faith and obedience. Obedience cannot always be understood by human logic. God's command to Joshua to march around the city was not a conventional strategy. However, victory does not come from human strategies, but from total obedience to God. True faith is precisely tested when no visible changes have occurred. Perseverance in doing God's will becomes the key to seeing the fulfillment of His promise.

Thirdly, it is important to actively involve God and not stop believing. God's presence was symbolized by the Ark of the Covenant, which always accompanied the journey of the Israelites. This confirms that victory is not achieved by one's own strength, but through God's presence. Furthermore, the blowing of trumpets symbolized a continuous declaration of faith's victory. Faith is not merely kept in the heart, but also declared through continuous words, prayers, and praises.

Fourthly, God's promise will surely be fulfilled. A long process is not a sign that God is not working, but rather that God is working deeply and perfectly. God's timing is never late and never rushed. The fulfillment of the promise occurs when faith, obedience, and perseverance are maintained until the end.

Thus, the process of waiting is not in vain, but an important part of the journey of faith. When someone continues to hold onto God's promise, lives in obedience, involves God in every step, and keeps believing without giving up, then in due time, every one of God's promises will be perfectly fulfilled.

The Lord Jesus Bless You.
