Life as a believer is a struggle. However, the Word of God says that our weapons are not worldly weapons, but weapons equipped with the power of God to tear down strongholds. One of the greatest strongholds that must be defeated is within the mind. Therefore, Paul says, 'We take every thought captive and make it obedient to Christ.' 1. Taking Every Thought Captive. Proverbs 23:7 says, 'For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.' What we constantly think about will influence our feelings, words, decisions, and actions. If the mind is filled with fear, it will be difficult for us to walk in faith. If it is filled with bitterness, we will easily suspect and judge others. Job said, 'For the thing I greatly feared has come upon me' (Job 3:25). This verse does not mean every fear will become a reality, but it shows how heavy life is when the mind is controlled by anxiety. Do not suffer because of something that has not even happened yet. Psalm 23:5 says, 'You anoint my head with oil.' This picture reminds us that God, the Good Shepherd, guards our heads and minds. Negative thoughts may come, but we do not have to accept, harbor, or believe them. 2. Submitting Thoughts to Christ. Taking thoughts captive is not enough; those thoughts must be submitted to Christ and examined based on the Word of God. 1 Corinthians 2:16 says that we have the mind of Christ. Philippians 2:5 teaches us to have the mind and feelings that were in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:8 provides a filter for our thoughts: are they true, noble, just, pure, lovely, of good report, virtuous, and praiseworthy? Not everything we think is truth. We may be experiencing problems, but that does not mean God has left us. Abraham set an example of faith. When asked to offer Isaac, he reasoned that God was able to raise him from the dead (Hebrews 11:17–19). Abraham did not ignore reality, but viewed it based on God's power and faithfulness. 3. Meditating on and Speaking the Word. Joshua 1:8 teaches that the Word of God should be meditated on day and night, spoken, and practiced. Wrong thoughts should not just be discarded; they must be replaced with the truth of the Word. When the mind says, 'I cannot do it,' answer, 'I can do all things through Christ.' When the mind says, 'There is no way,' remember that Jesus is the way. When fear says, 'You are alone,' trust that God never leaves us. Therefore, recognize wrong thoughts, test them with the Word, reject their lies, and replace them with God's promises. As our minds submit to Christ, the peace of God will guard our hearts and minds. Do not let wild thoughts determine our future. Let Christ and His Word lead our whole lives. Amen.
